Transnasal Oesophagoscopy (TNE)
Esophagoscopy is a procedure in which a flexible endoscope is inserted through the nose. The small flexible camera inside will show the nasal passages to the voice box and then down the food pipe to the Stomach.
This safe and well-tolerated procedure is performed in the rooms, requires no sedation and examines the oesophagus wall and stomach lining. It is a beneficial tool in obtaining a timely diagnosis for disorders:
- Reflux
- Globus
- Cancer
- Barretts
- GERD
- Food Allergies
The procedure itself can last up to 5mins and biopsies can be taken at the time. As the procedure is videoed, the Consultant will take you through the findings after the procedure is complete.
To assist the Consultant with a clear view (and for your comfort), no eating for 4 hours and no drinking for 2 hours before the procedure.
